Wrongful Termination ● Unpaid Wages ● Discrimination and Harassment ● Unpaid Overtime ● Family and Medical Leave ● Independent Contractors
At Watson Law, we are firmly committed to the rights of employees in the workplace. Our firm is led by attorney Charles ("Chuck") Watson, a member of both the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Illinois Employment Lawyers Association - both organizations restrict their membership to attorneys who concentrate their practice on representing employees instead of employers. We have years of success representing employees in complaints and lawsuits against their employers in matters such as:
- Discrimination and harassment
- Wrongful termination
- Whistleblowing
- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) issues
- Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) disputes
- Unpaid wage claims before the Illinois Department of Labor
- Minimum wage disputes
- Misclassification as an independent contractor and failure to pay overtime
If you have questions about any of these issues, we invite you to contact our offices for an appointment to discuss possible claims against your employer. It may be wise to consider filing a lawsuit.
State Employees: Illinois Civil Service Commission Appeals
State employees who have been fired or who have suffered some other negative employment action may either file a grievance with their union or file an appeal with the Illinois Civil Service Commission. You have the choice, but you may not file both a union grievance and an appeal with the Civil Service Commission. The decision must be made quickly - state employees have only 15 days after a negative employment action to file an appeal with the Civil Service Commission. Contact Watson Law today if you are a state employee and any of the following are true:
- You have been discharged, fired or terminated
- You have been suspended from your position with or without pay
- You have been transferred to an undesirable position or location
- You are facing a layoff
- You have been demoted
- You believe that you have been fired or demoted in retaliation for making a complaint about discrimination, harassment, unsafe working conditions or illegal government actions
State employees also have the right to file other discrimination suits.
